In an obvious effort to quell the adverse reports on the prestigious Hyderabad Metro Rail project, the Centre and Telangana Governments on Monday initiated measures to speed up execution of the project.

The Chief Secretary of Telangana Rajiv Sharma and Advisor to Government Papa Rao reached New Delhi on Monday for talks on the project with Cabinet Secretary Ajit Seth and Principal Secretary to Prime Minister Nrupendra Misra.

Sources said the visit of the officials was aimed to send out a message that the Centre was monitoring the progress of the project. The Centre was also keen on its completion even before the expiry of the deadline.

Meanwhile, Secretary in the Ministry of Urban Development, Shanker Agarwal, was due to meet the Chief Secretary in Hyderabad on Tuesday to discuss the rail project but it was not known whether the same would be held in view of the latter's visit to New Delhi.
