Teething troubles remain

July 11, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:44 am IST - Hyderabad:

The fledgling college still needs Rs.60 crore for purchase of more equipment considering that it has been stripped bare when the hospital was shifted to Nacharam and also for various patient care initiatives.

There are other thorny matters.

For instance, the proposal to demolish the old hospital building to construct a new seven storied structure for a OPD block for the college, increase beds to 200, provide amenities to the patients attenders, bank, ATMs, parking, etc., has reached a cul de sac.

An obscure official order prohibiting demolishing government structures until they are 50 years old is being cited to halt the work even as another proposal to retrofit the existing two-storied dank building at Rs.80 crore has been floated.

College administrators insist that the new OPD block is vital when the first year students reach the final year. Moreover, hospital beds of super speciality (200 beds) cannot be considered for the college.

Mr. Dattatreya, however, has assured to take this up on a priority when apprised of the necessity of the new building. In the meantime, vacant staff quarters are to be used for OPD and other services.
