Teachers oppose Eflu’s transfer policy

November 29, 2013 11:27 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 09:24 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

The Teachers’ Association English and Foreign Languages University (Eflu-TA), has questioned the proposed transfer policy, which it said was framed without involving the stakeholders and its implications on the university’s future.

Eflu-TA president Bhangya Bhukya and joint secretary Indranil Dutta said the transfer policy was ratified in the Executive Council meeting held on November 21, and it violates the terms and conditions of the appointment of teachers.

They alleged that the new policy was ratified despite the teachers expressing opposition through a representation to the EC. The opposition was also communicated to the Vice-Chancellor.

Dr. Dutta argued that new policy would adversely impact teaching and research and the hasty manner in which the policy was drafted would affect seniority of teachers and their eligibility to posts of Heads, Deans as well as membership to different university bodies. As per the proposed policy teachers could be transferred to the Eflu regional centres in Shillong and Lucknow.

“The policy is also not concerned with the effect on research supervision if the teachers are transferred. Such punitive policy will negatively affect future recruitments as well and existing teachers may also choose to leave for more stable academic careers,” Dr. Dutta said.

He said the teachers would intensify their stir if the new policy was not withdrawn immediately. They would continue to struggle to protect the broader academic status and integrity of the varsity.
