The Telugu Desam Party has requested the Chief Electoral Officer to take timely action into the violations of model code of conduct by the YSR Congress Party in the run up to the by-election for Nandyal Assembly constituency.
Party MPs Kesineni Srinivas (Nani) and Konakalla Narayana lamented that the election authority was yet to initiate action into the complaints lodged by them against the YSRC. The by-poll is slated on August 23 and the campaign will come to a close on Monday, but the CEO had not initiated any action into the complaints like distribution of money to voters as well as the manner in which YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy was inciting the voters with his provocative comments against Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and the ruling TDP leaders.
Mr. Narayana and Mr. Nani called on CEO Bhanwarlal here on Sunday to register their complaints afresh. They expressed concern over the CEO’s directive imposing restrictions on conducting poll surveys.
Students, NGOs and others who were deployed to conduct surveys to ascertain the voters’ pulse were being detained and this was against the election laws. The Election Commission had not prohibited parties from conducting surveys and the only restriction imposed was on their publication/telecast.
It was mandatory for the political parties to reveal their surveys half an hour after the polling was completed. They said the CEO had assured to take stock of the situation on Monday and initiate action on the complaints.
