Mild tension prevailed near the main library building in Osmania University campus on Friday, when a group of students planning to take out a march to the Assembly pelted stones at police as they were stopped from doing so. The students planned the protest demanding that the Telangana government increase the number of posts as well as defer Group-II recruitment exam.

Seven persons, including Kalyan, Bheem Rao and Narender Reddy leading the agitation, were taken into preventive custody by the Osmania University police. They were let off in the evening. A Telugu TV news channel cameraman was injured in the stone pelting.

The protesting students said the government had not announced all the vacancies of Group-II cadre and hence the proposed Group-II recruitment test should be postponed. They also urged the government not to insist on clearance of Teachers’ Eligibility Test (TET) for candidates appearing for teachers’ recruitment. Police blocked all entry and exit points to foil the ‘Chalo Assembly’ planned by the students. A group of students suddenly hurled stones at policemen on ‘bandobust’ duty near the main library building. Police used mild force and dispersed the agitating students.
