The Telangana State Public Service Commission chairman Ghanta Chakrapani presided over the first meeting of the standing committee of national conference of chairmen of State Public Service Commissions at Shillong in Meghalaya on Saturday.
Meghalaya Chief Minister Mikel M. Sangma inaugurated the standing committee meeting in the presence of Union Public Service Commission chairman David R. Syiemlieh. Mr. Chakrapani was elected chairman of the panel at the national conference meeting in Gujarat in February last.
In his inaugural speech, Mr. Sangma asked the chairmen of commissions to make appointments to public services impartially and without political pressures. Only when meritorious and efficient candidates were selected by the commissions, it would result in common good of people. Mr. Syiemlieh called upon commissions to adopt fair and transparent procedures.
Mr. Chakrapani emphasised the need to adopt the modern technology in conduct of exams.
He said he would take initiatives to ensure all commissions adopted the newer technologies which were more fool proof, reliable and transparent. He would also try to find solutions to the different issues faced by State PSCs with the cooperation of standing committee members.
The standing committee comprised chairmen of commissions representing Chattisgarh, Gujarat, Jammu and Kashmir, West Bengal, Haryana, Kerala, Meghalaya and Himachal Pradesh as members.
