State failed in tackling drought: BJP

April 05, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:45 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Charging the TRS Government with completely failing to take drought relief measures, the Telangana BJP has demanded that the State initiate them on a war-footing and constitute all-party committees in all the districts to oversee the operations.

Migration

Addressing a press conference here on Monday, Telangana BJP president G. Kishan Reddy said that 30 lakh people have migrated from rural areas in search of livelihood in view of the severe drought conditions. He announced that the party has decided to send 10 teams to all the districts to study drought situation on Tuesday. Based on the inputs given by them, the party would submit reports to the Governor and State Government.

He alleged that the State Government had not spent a paisa even though the Centre released Rs.730 crore for tackling drought.

Releasing the resolutions passed at the BJP State Executive meeting, Mr. Reddy alleged irregularities and misuse of funds in Mission Kakatiya and Mission Bhagiratha. In spite of having majority, the TRS Government was promoting defections from other parties and giving important positions in the party to people who opposed formation of Telangana.

‘Defectors Telangana’

He also accused TRS leadership of threatening and coercing public representatives of other parties in local bodies to defect to the ruling party. After promising ‘Golden Telangana’, the State was being converted into ‘Defectors Telangana’. He criticised Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for ridiculing universities and students in Telangana and faulted him for not appointing Vice-Chancellors for the past two years.

He said that BJP leaders would visit villages for four days from April 17 to create awareness among people on the schemes launched by the Central government for agriculture and rural development.
