Stalemate over Inter exams continues

November 14, 2014 12:24 am | Updated November 16, 2021 11:34 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Confusion over Intermediate examinations continues with both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana governments refusing to budge from their respective stances. The latter has been seeking separate exams and the former, common exams for this year.

The Secretary, Board of Intermediate Education (BIE), Rama Shankar Naik said proposals have been sent to both governments and the final decision on the schedule has to be taken by them both.

‘AP can’t decide’

It is, however, said that the Telangana Government had returned the file to the BIE, refusing to give their view. The Telangana government is said to have argued that the Andhra Pradesh Government can only give their opinion and cannot send a file to take a decision on it.

Repeated efforts to reach the Telangana Education Minister, Mr. G. Jagadish Reddy, proved futile.

Meanwhile, officials said the AP Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao was briefed about the schedule and requested to talk to Mr. Jagadish Reddy to provide clarity to the issue.

“It is unfair to keep the students confused when the exams are just a few months away. Both governments should understand that Intermediate exams are important in many ways as the marks are connected to admissions to IITs, NITs and the EAMCET,” an official said.

Officials said Telangana Chief Secretary Rajiv Sharma had promised to sort out the issue within two days when former MLC Chukka Ramaiah met him over the issue.
