Allotment of medical seats under sports quota with fake credentials alleged

The Anti-Corruption Bureau officials on Wednesday conducted a raid at the residence of G. Venkataramana, Deputy Director, Sports Authority of Telangana (SAT), at Ramananthapur in connection with allegations of allotment of medical seats under sports quota with fake credentials.

Officials said raids were also conducted at the houses of four other sports officials, K. Manohar, in-charge, A&SS, G.A. Shoba, deputy director (C&A), G. Chandra Reddy, administrator, cycling velodrome, Vimalakar Rao, administrator, SATS for further evidences.

Bureau Additional SP Ramana Kumar said the State government had referred a case to the ACB on a complaint lodged by P. Satyanarayana father of Bharathchandra Reddy for inquiry on certain irregularities alleged to have been committed in the admission of MBBS and BDS in various medical colleges in the State last academic year.

“The complainant said Venkataramana had demanded and accepted a bribe of ₹1 lakh for providing a copy of the allotment of priorities to the sportspersons for admission under sports quota with fake credentials, but failed to provide admission,” he said.

Case registered

After the preliminary investigation, a case of criminal misconduct was registered against the accused on Tuesday and he was arrested on Wednesday.

Mr. Kumar said required documentary and digital evidence was collected from the office of SAT and Venkataramana will be produced before the ACB Court for judicial remand.
