The Telangana Government on Wednesday issued orders continuing Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Commissioner (GHMC) Somesh Kumar as special officer for six more months effective June 4.
The State Government order said: “In exercise of power conferred under section 70-G of the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation Act, 1955, the Government of Telangana hereby continue the term of Somesh Kumar, IAS, Commissioner, GHMC, Hyderabad as Special Officer of the corporation to exercise the power, perform the duties and discharge the functions of the corporation and the Standing committee for a further period of six months with effect from June 4.”
Interestingly, Mr. Somesh Kumar has been allotted to Andhra Pradesh cadre after final allocation by the Pratyush Sinha committee. Mr. Kumar had challenged the allotment and filed a petition in the Central Administrative Tribunal seeking an order to retain him in Telangana cadre.
It may be mentioned here that Judicature of High Court of Hyderabad had recently passed orders directing the Telangana Government to conduct elections to GHMC before December. Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao in an interview to ‘The Hindu’ last week had categorically stated that his Government was committed to complete the elections before December.
