Six-day-old girl rescued, six held

A six-day-old girl has been rescued by Rachakonda police from the clutches of a child trafficking gang, which intended to sell her for ₹80,000. The girl was handed over to Child Welfare Committee in Ranga Reddy district.

On a tip-off, the police arrested six persons, including two women on charges of child trafficking.

The accused were identified as K. Ravi (32) and his wife K. Saroja (28), and Kethavath Pantu (40), all residents of Vausdevpur Tanda, Kadthal in Ranga Reddy, V. Rukka (45) and Mudavath Lakshman (50), both resident of Pahadishareef and Varithyavath Redya (45), a resident of Medigadda Thanda, Amangal in Ranga Reddy.

“We conducted a decoy operation​ and nabbed the suspects, who were trying to sell a new-born baby girl in Saroornagar limits,” said Mahesh M. Bhagwat, Commissioner of Police, Rachakonda.

He said that the gang approach poor tribal couples in thanda and induce them to sell their baby for ₹15,000.
