Telangana government will start disbursal of financial assistance to all eligible single women beneficiaries not covered by any other social security scheme from June 2.

Panchayat Raj and Rural Development department issued guidelines on Tuesday for the implementation of the scheme announced by the State government three months ago. The disbursement would be completed within 10 days after the government released the amount. On June 2, two months pension would be disbursed through the postal department after biometric or iris verification of the eligible beneficiaries as the scheme would be effective from April 1.

The first of its kind social security scheme for the single women in the country is expected to benefit about three lakh applicants and with this the total number of beneficiaries under various categories drawing social security pensions will touch 40 lakh in the State, he said.

The applications should be submitted to the Panchayat Secretary in the rural areas and the Bill Collector in urban local bodies and the village revenue officer in the GHMC area. District Collectors will be the final authority to clear the list of beneficiaries.

Family income

Married women above 18 years of age who had been separated from her husband or whose husband deserted her for more than one year period would be eligible for the financial assistance. Unmarried women aged above 30 years in rural areas and above 35 years in urban areas would also be eligible for the financial assistance. The beneficiaries however should have an annual household income of less than ₹1.5 lakh in rural areas and ₹2 lakh in urban areas.

Women aged above 65 years who belonged to any of the above categories would be covered under the Asara old age pension scheme, he said.

Mr.Krishna Rao also announced that the bworkers would get pension irrespective of any other family member getting social security pension. Earlier government ruled that Beedi workers would not get pension if any member in their house was drawing social security pension. This relaxation would make about 80,000 beedi workers eligible for pension covered under the EPF.
