It was touted as the ultimate sign of empowerment when women cops in Telangana were given 159 Hero Duet scooters by Hero MotoCorp, the world’s largest two-wheeler manufacturer, here on Thursday.
The vehicles, equipped with sirens, traffic lights and public address systems, were given to women police officers to perform their duty conveniently and effectively. It is to increase the efficiency of the She Teams that have, of late, come to be feared by eve-teasers in the twin cities.
The Chief Information Officer and Head of Hero MotoCorp’s Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, Vijay Sethi, handed over the fleet of two-wheelers to the police force that was represented by Commissioners M. Mahender Reddy (Hyderabad), Sandeep Shandilya (Cyberabad) and Mahesh M. Bhagwat (Rachakonda).
While Mr. Mahender Reddy received 70 of the scooters, Mr. Sandeep Shandilya and Mr. Mahesh Bhagwat received 50 and 39 scooters, respectively. The senior police officers acknowledged the Hero MotoCorp’s gesture and said it would go a long way in enhancing the safety and security of women in the State capital.
Mr. Sethi said as a market leader and a responsible corporate entity, the Hero MotoCorp was committed to promote road safety and women empowerment. Telangana, he said, was one of the several States where the company was partnering with the police to bring in change in society. He said the company’s CSR initiative was titled ‘Ride Safe India’.
