Separate counselling for Telangana students: Minister

July 31, 2014 12:43 am | Updated November 16, 2021 05:31 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

Telangana Government will conduct its own engineering counselling and students of the region need not attend the certificate verification process for which the notification was issued by the APSCHE, said Education Minister G. Jagadish Reddy.

The process will start once the inspection of colleges is over, which is expected to be completed in two to three weeks, the Minister said at a press conference here. Mr. Reddy termed the APSCHE’s notification as illegal and a ploy by A.P Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu and APSCHE to mislead students and defame the Telangana Government.

Telangana officials have written a letter questioning the Admission Committee’s meeting but they took a unilateral decision. Moreover, none of the GOs pertaining to the counselling have been issued neither by the A.P Government nor by Telangana. “I want to assure Telangana students that they need not worry over the delay,” he said, adding that engineering classes started only in October in the last five years. He said the Government has the authority over all the colleges in its region and the AP Government cannot allot seats to its students here. The Minister also made it clear that it was the Government’s prerogative to decide on who should benefit from fee reimbursement and it was committed to help only Telangana candidates. The FAST scheme guidelines will be announced soon .

The JNTU Hyderabad Vice Chancellor, P. Rameshwar Rao, who was present at the press conference, said that the inspection process of 446 colleges under its jurisdiction was on and it will take two to three weeks for completion. The report will indicate which college can be included in the counselling based on its quality and adherence to norms.
