The Cyberabad police decided to conduct a second autopsy on the body of music director Anil, but deferred the decision for two days in the last minute on Monday, triggering speculation about reasons behind their action.
The Narsingi police and a team of forensic doctors of Osmania Medical College came to the Catholic Cemetery near Kavadiguda bus-stop in the morning to exhume the body.
While the music director's friends, who gathered outside the cemetery, expressed dissatisfaction over the decision to conduct second post-mortem exam, the police began preparations by calling in workers and prepared the papers pertaining to the requisition.
Even as media persons and curious onlookers assembled outside debating the ‘factors' that drove the police to go for the second exam, the police came out after an hour stating it was deferred for two days. “Anil's family members could not come. They sought two days time and hence the postponement,” the Narsingi Inspector, P. Narayana, said.
Why was the second post-mortem required? “Though the Gandhi Medical College doctors held the PME after exhuming the body the first time, we wanted to corroborate certain findings to have conclusive evidence,” the Inspector said.
Conceding that the GMC doctors stated in their report the music director had died of head injury, Mr. Narayana remarked police didn't dispute the doctors' observation, but wanted a detailed and comprehensive investigation.
Services of the OMC doctors were being availed in the second PME as the ‘GMC doctors would naturally stick to their first report' if they were called to conduct it again, the Inspector said.
Third team sought
Anil's brother, Prakash, however, contended that the GMC doctors, who conducted first post-mortem, must be included in the team conducting the second one. Questioning the “haste with which the police tried to conduct the second PME”, Mr. Prakash said the Inspector told him on Sunday evening that the second PME would be held on Monday.
“I had to run to the Home Minister and the Cyberabad Police Commissioner to get it stopped and give us some time,” he said.
