Did you know Helium and Hydrogen were lighter than air? If yes, why are dilute acids more acidic than their concentrated variants? And have you wondered why the cost of 16 GB RAM runs into thousands whereas a 16 GB flash drive costs a few hundred rupees?
These and more were the questions posed to participants at the Sciensation, a science quiz held at the Bharathi Vidya Bhavan here on Saturday. About 200 teams from more than 33 schools around the city participated in the preliminary round.
Four teams — Little Flower High School, Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan - Atma Kumaris Rama Rao School, Atomic Energy Central School and DAV School, Safilguda — have made it to the finals.
There was quite some competition, as each team vied with the other trying to answer questions that required explanation and reasoning. Cheers from the crowd added to the atmosphere. Little Flower High School team bagged the first place scoring 15 points while Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan stood second with six points. Atomic Energy School team and DAV Safilguda scored three and two points respectively.
Most questions were situation-based, urging students to associate science with everyday life. The event aimed at making science a student-friendly subject as against the perception otherwise, said Tarun, one among the event’s organisers.
Certificates were handed over the winners and participants.
