Public sector miner Singareni Collieries Company Limited has decided to venture into solar energy sector with plans to generate 300 MW of power in the coming years.

As part of the efforts, the company will set up solar plants in four coal mining areas in the first phase. Accordingly, it will set up 60 MW capacity solar plant at Yellandu, 50 MW plant at Ramagundam, 3,30 MW plant at Manuguru and 10 MW plant at Singareni Thermal Power Station.

The company has identified lands required for the purpose and is expecting that generation of one mega watt power would require an area of five acres.

SCCL Chairman and Managing Director N. Sridhar has directed the officials concerned to complete the modalities required for inviting the tenders in the next 10 days besides initiating steps to ensure that land was made ready for setting up the plant. Mr. Sridhar held deliberations with senior officials on the process required for appointing a consulting company as well as the guidelines that should be adopted for initiating the tender process.

The SCCL chairman who reviewed the functioning of the thermal power plant set up by the company expressed happiness that the unit-II of the project could generate 418 million units with plant load factor of 93.7% in May.

The company could achieve generation of 388.23 MU from unit-I which registered plant load factor of 86.84%. Of the total 806 MW power generated, the company supplied 762.37 MU to Powergrid Corporation network at Gajwel with plant load factor of 90.33%, according to an official release.
