Sale of spurious cement: 3 held

Three persons, who packed low-priced cement in bags of higher priced brands and made a profit by selling it to builders and house owners, were caught by the police on Saturday.

According to the police, Habeeb Taher bin Habeeb Hussain, Mohd. Chand and Baba Bakhtawer, who worked at different construction material shops in old city, took Birla Shakthi, Ramco cement, Maha cement, etc., and packed them in Ultra Tech cement bags. They later sold it to customers and made a profit between Rs. 50 and Rs. 60 per bag.

The accused procured the cement bags of Ultra Tech cement from a trader at Amberpet and filled the lower priced cement in those bags. After packing the cement, they supplied it to customers who desired to purchase the brand.

On a tip off, the south zone police raided several shops and seized the material along with the stitching machine. Cases were registered against Habeeb Hussain, Mohd Chand and Baba.
