Rythu Bandhu is ‘Votes Bandhu’: Chinna Reddy

Congress leader accuses Chief Minister of lacking sincerity towards farmers

AICC Secretary and MLA G. Chinna Reddy warned people to be wary of Rythu Bandhu scheme, calling it a political stunt to impress the farmers, who were neglected by the government during the last four years and termed it as ‘Votes Bandhu’ scheme. “If you fall for the Chief Minister’s plan, you will only be deceived, like the last four years,” he said at a press conference here on Wednesday.

If the TRS comes back to power, the scheme would be discontinued, Mr. Reddy said. “Chief Minister K. Chandrashekara Rao’s lack of sincerity towards farmers is evident. He ignored suicides of more than 3,000 farmers over the last four years, but suddenly developed a love towards them, keeping the elections in sight,” he said.

Mr. Reddy said farmers would be happy if the government extends minimum support price (MSP).

Such a move would ensure that actual farmers would benefit, not the landlords. Farmers need to be supported at every stage, not just before elections, he said.

The MLA said the Chief Minister was ‘feeling guilty’ to face Sonia Gandhi and Rahul Gandhi and this was the reason behind his choice to skip Karnataka Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy’s swearing-in-ceremony.
