RTA crackdown on school buses continues

June 15, 2016 12:00 am | Updated October 18, 2016 02:48 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

For the second consecutive day, the State transport officials continued their crackdown on illegal buses carrying school children. In the city limits alone, 25 school buses were seized taking the total number to 61 in the last two days. While 12 buses were seized because the drivers failed to furnish valid driving licence, eight were seized since the buses did not have insurance documents. Another five were seized due to lack of fitness certificate and permit.

The checks were conducted in the areas of Mehdipatnam, SR Nagar, Dilsukhnagar, Kothapet and other commercial localities which have a significant number of schools.

According to T. Raghunath, Joint Transport Commissioner, Hyderabad, the drive will continue for the next few days. “Notices will be sent to the school managements for the violations. We have already started booking cases against them. Since the issue pertains to the safety of school children, it is being taken seriously.”

Mr. Raghunath informed that they are also making sure that the buses are only seized after the school hours to make sure that the routine of the students is not disturbed.
