The Telangana Telugu Desam Party has criticised the Telangana Rashtra Samiti leaders including Ministers for casting aspersions on political joint action committee chairman M. Kodandaram who successfully headed the agitation for the separate Telangana State.
Telangana TDP working president A. Revanth Reddy recalled the stellar role played by Prof. Kodandaram, Prof. Haragopal and other intellectuals in the Telangana movement and said the intellectuals were now being targeted for highlighting the failures of the ruling party that failed to meet the expectations of the people. Prof. Kodandaram, after reviewing the performance of the Government in the last two years, expressed his resentment over the non-fulfilment of assurances given by the TRS.
‘Unable to digest criticism’
These leaders were unable to digest the sorry state of affairs brought out by Prof. Kodandaram highlighting the continuing injustices to dalits, weaker sections, minorities and other sections.
“The TRS leadership is unable to digest any criticism. The leaders who launched a broadside against Prof. Kodandaram were nowhere in picture during the agitation. In fact, these leaders including Ministers Talasani Srinivas Yadav were in the forefront in criticising the political JAC during the peak of the movement,” he said.
Issue of compensation
He recalled that the State Government had acted on the payment of compensation to families of farmers who committed suicide following the public interest litigation filed by Prof. Kodandaram in the high court.
Mr. Revanth Reddy refuted the ruling party leaders claims that the JAC chairman was toeing the line of Opposition parties including the Congress and the TDP.
“We are questioning the Government on its failures and it should not be construed as if Prof. Kodandaram is toeing the line of the Opposition parties,” he said.
‘Issue showcause notices’
He demanded that TRS president and Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao issue showcause notices to his leaders who criticised Prof. Kodandaram and seek an explanation from them failing which the TTDP would gear up for an agitation along with the intellectuals.
