Rail Museum opened at Kacheguda

A ‘Rail Museum’ showcasing the origin and growth of the railways is now open to the public at Kacheguda station.

It has photographs of the rail network going back to the Nizam’s rule, the inauguration of Kacheguda station and exhibits of the vintage era, including signalling equipment, prototypes of locomotives and coaches, tickets and working models.

A highlight of the museum is an exclusive air-conditioned lounge where audio-visuals on the history and growth of railways and other related aspects that includes security, safety, bridges and the like. Entry to the museum is free for those with a valid passenger ticket or even a platform ticket. For others, there would be a nominal entry fee, according to South Central Railway General Manager P.K. Srivastava, who inaugurated the exhibition on Thursday. Kacheguda was chosen as the location of the museum because of its heritage value. It will function under the charge of Divisional Railway Manager (Hyderabad) Aruna Singh.

A restaurant?

Moreover, two air-conditioned metre gauge coaches that were earlier used to run ‘Heritage on Wheels’ trains in Rajasthan have been brought and stationed next to the reservation complex. The ambience here has been developed with elegant canopy-styled seating amidst greenery, and the coaches are planned to be utilised as a uniquely-designed dine-in restaurant in the near future.
