Rahejas rapped for ‘illegal' project

June 21, 2011 01:15 pm | Updated 01:15 pm IST - HYDERABAD:

In yet another allegation against Raheja Group, Minister for Handlooms, Public Enterprises and Small Scale Industries P. Shankar Rao said that it was constructing a massive residential complex after acquiring land in the Nacharam Industrial Estate for an IT Park.

The Minister, who inspected the Charlapally, Mallapur and Nacharam industrial areas at the instance of Federation of AP Small Industries Association (FAPSIA), told reporters here on Monday that the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation had allotted 30 acres of land to United Tractors Company. However, as the tractor unit did not take off even after decades, APIIC had taken the land back after a legal battle.

When the Corporation auctioned the resumed land in the industrial park, the Raheja Group bought 26 acres ostensibly for an IT park. However, it was now building apartment complexes in the land for industrial units and started promoting as a commercial venture, Mr. Rao said.
