Two electronic devices that offer the scripture in a wholly new format have hit the market days before the month of Ramzan is to commence. One is a pen that translates the holy text in 19 languages and recites it in the voice of 16 renowned Qaris. And the other is a mobile phone which offers all these features on the go. Both the high-end products are manufactured by China and are being marketed in the country by a Mumbai dealer.
Variety of options
What is unique about the versatile appliances is the variety of options available to choose the language, reciter and commentary. The pen translates the Quran in English, Urdu, Marathi, Bengali, Tamil, Malayalam, Pashto, Farsi, Dari, Turkish, Kurdish, French, German, Russian, Chinese, Kyrgyzstan. One can also read the ‘Sahih Bukhar’, the book of Hadith, and listen to the Quranic commentary by well-known writers such as Dr. Israr Ahmed (Urdu), Jalalain (Arabic).
“Read any page any verse by simply touching the pen on the colour coded Quran provided in Uthmani script,” says Syed Ishaq Darvesh, the dealer.
The set costs Rs. 3,600 and comes with a head phone, USB cable, electronic pen and Quran card. The GSM touch screen mobile too offers these features. It allows one to listen to the recital of seven Qaris. Here one can choose the Quran translation in 29 languages besides browsing 33 Islamic books. The two SIM mobile also has other attractive applications such as Azan alarm, prayer timings and Qibla direction.
