In the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET-2017) held on Sunday, students complained of some questions taken from outside the syllabus while candidates of Warangal centres said they got English medium question paper instead of Telugu medium.
At the 59 centres in Hyderabad, 56,804 students appeared for the exam while 7,805 candidates appeared at 16 centres in Warangal. Parents complained that Telugu medium candidates were given English medium question paper and the officials did not give proper response forcing them to stage dharna at some centres. Teachers said three questions from Zoology paper were out of syllabus. Meanwhile, restrictions on attire created some uncomfortable moments for the candidates at several centres as they were forced to remove even small earstuds and nose rings.
Subramanyam, father of a girl aspirant at a centre in Alwal, said the instructions given before the exam referred to only large earrings but officials at the centre forced the girls to remove even earstuds and nose rings. Boys who wore full sleeve shirts were forced to cut them to half sleeves even though they preferred to fold the sleeves.
Parents said they welcomed the steps taken to plug all loopholes and scope for malpractice but felt that kids were not treated with dignity. “Every kid was treated as if he or she were a criminal and that attitude played on their minds even in the exam hall,” said Mr. Ravinder Reddy, whose son took the exam at a prominent school in Banjara Hills. He said there was a need to train the officials on these aspects.
