Exhorting the policemen to participate with a killer instinct in sports meet, Director General of Police Anurag Sharma said the sports persons in the country lacked that spirit.

Mr. Sharma inaugurated the Telangana State-level second police sports and games meet here at Jawaharlal Nerhu auditorium on Friday. Participation in the sports helps building understanding and bond between individuals. It helps build teamwork. “Individually we can do very little but as a team we can do a lot,” he observed asking the personnel to aim high and win laurels in life.

About 3,000 players and officers will be involved in the three-day meet where players compete in more than 20 events.

City Police Commissioner G. Sudheer Babu said Warangal was fastest growing city in Telangana after Hyderabad. It was fit to host the prestigious event and officials of Warangal police will leave no stone unturned to make the event a grand success.

The events have been scheduled at JNS Grounds, Balasamudram swimming pool, Municipal Indoor Stadium, Urs Tank, Madikonda Police Training Centre and at other places.

Mr. Sudheer Babu said that policemen faced great challenges. He listed out the social initiatives taken up by the department in the city. “We are happy to associate with all the flagship programmes of the State Government and much more than that. From our free coaching camp for unemployed youth, 121 youth got government jobs,” he added.

Personnel from various wings and districts of police department presented a colourful parade.

Sports in-charge and additional CP V.V. Srinivasa Rao, Warangal Rural Collector P.J. Patil, Kothagudem SP Ambar Kishore Jha and other senior officers were present.
