Publicise division norms: Congress

August 20, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 09:31 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee (TPCC) has demanded that the State Government publicise the guidelines that form the basis for the ongoing exercise of reorganisation of districts.

In a statement issued on Friday, the party said it had deep reservations over the sagacity of creating new districts without waiting for the delimitation of Assembly constituencies, although the party would welcome the initiative since it was committed to reorganisation of districts as highlighted in its election manifesto. However, the party would not consider it a mere administrative exercise dictated by political exigency.

Public hearing

Further, the party wanted public hearing at all levels to take views of people and also of the gram sabhas on the draft proposals. The party suggested that the government institute a judicial commission to review the representations received from people independently. It also favoured convening a tribal advisory council meeting since reorganisation of districts would also affect areas falling in the fifth scheduled areas.
