Human Rights Forum (HRF) on Thursday urged the Governor to order an inquiry into the ‘illegal methods’ adopted by the Telangana government to foil the recent protest rally planned by Telangana Joint Action Committee (TJAC).
Addressing a press conference, HRF president S. Jeevan Kumar and general secretary V.S. Krishna said the way the Telangana Rashtra Samiti government dealt with the protest rally suggests that it wanted to continue the suppressive methods of earlier governments.
Police impunity
“For past several decades, the successive governments allowed police personnel to take illegal steps with impunity to either suppress Maoists or eliminate them physically. Now, TRS government seems to be adopting the same stand with regard to TJAC,” Mr. Jeevan Kumar said.
He said the Government had the option of calling TJAC leaders for discussions on the proposed protest rally over filling up vacant posts and promises made to the unemployed.
The government could have then explained to them its stand and actions initiated for filling up various government jobs.
Police condemned
Referring to detention of TJAC chairman Kodandaram, the HRF president condemned police for the way they detained TJAC chairman Kodandaram.
While Mr. Kodandaram adopted peaceful manners and remained in his house, the police forcibly entered his house at midnight and showed a vengeful attitude, he said.
