Andhra Pradesh Government made priority allocation for education and health, medical and family welfare sectors in its budget for 2014-15.
In fact the highest allocation of Rs.14, 860 crore goes to the Education sector – Rs.12,595 crore to the School Education, Rs.812 crore to Intermediate Education and Rs.2,275 crore to Higher Education in tune with the Knowledge and Skill Development Mission, one of the seven missions constituted for focused development.
The allocation takes into account the grants under the Centrally sponsored schemes like Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan, Rashtriya Mdhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan and Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan schemes.
Focus would be to provide good quality and affordable elementary and secondary education for bridging the gender and social category gaps and also to improve soft skills and communication skills of students in English at the under-graduate level.
Government will be establishing four model degree colleges at cost of Rs.12 crore under the RUSA while it sanctioned IIIT in Chittoor district and likely to set up another IIIT at Kakinada under the PPP mode. It was also implementing Technical Education Quality Improvement Programme project in 11 institutions with an estimated outlay of Rs.88.8 crore.
The Health, medical and Family welfare department has been entrusted with responsibility for providing affordable, qualitative and timely health care services to the needy. With a provision of Rs.4,388 crore, the primary and secondary health care sectors would be strengthened with mandatory diagnostic facilities, drugs and medicines and other essentials.
The Visakha Institute of Medical Sciences, Visakhapatnam will be made operational and the SVIMS at Tirupati will be given financial assistance under the Pradhana Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana. An AIIMS type super speciality hospital cum teaching isntitution would be set up in the State with grants from the Centre.
