The prime accused in the case of firing on Pharma major Aurobindo vice-chairman K. Nityananda Reddy was identified as police constable Obulesu, police sources said on Thursday.

Obulesu, who earlier worked with Greyhounds -an elite commando force formed to fight against left wing extremists- was a constable of City Armed Reserve of Hyderabad police at Amberpet police headquarters. The Banjara Hills police and Hyderabad Commissioner’s Task Force officials found that Obulesu, along with three others, planned to extort money by kidnapping Mr. Reddy.

Special police teams were rushed to Anantapur district where Obulesu is believed to be hiding with his associates. Investigators stumbled upon crucial clue in the form of video footage recorded by surveillance cameras at a supermarket in Mehdipatnam where Obulesu shopped nearly two weeks ago.

“Since we identified the prime accused, it is a matter of time he is caught,” police officer associated with the investigation of the case said.
