The idea of gathering books on Hyderabad, its history and culture, particularly the Asafjahi dynasty, is gaining ground. Many feel Hyderabad related books now gathering dust in different libraries both government and private should be protected and brought at one place.
“We need to preserve everything connected with Hyderabad and the Nizams”, said Prof. Suleman Siddiqui, former Vice-Chancellor, Osmania University.
He was speaking after releasing the book on Hyderabad authored by noted historian, Dawood Ashraf, here on Sunday. The book “Hyderabad Mushahir Ki Nazr Main” (Hyderabad in the eyes of the celebrities) is all about the impressions of eminent persons on Hyderabad, its political events and culture during the period of sixth and seventh Nizam.
Prof. Siddiqui said creating a resource centre on Hyderabad and its erstwhile rulers was the need of the hour. He complimented Mr. Dawood Ashraf for coming out with books based on irrefutable documentary evidence preserved in the State Achieves.
Zahid Ali Khan, Editor, Siasat , said he had already initiated efforts in getting hold of old Urdu books from the City College library. Mr. Khan offered to publish the new book of Mr. Dawood Ashraf in English if a translation was done from Urdu.
