Chairman of Telangana Transmission and Generation corporations D. Prabhakar Rao has been appointed Chairman of Bengaluru-based Southern Regional Power Committee.
A communication to this effect was issued by Central Electricity Authority Member-Secretary S.R. Bhatt, a release of CMO said.
The SRPC comprises member States Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Kerala, Tamil Nadu and Puducherry. It will oversee inter-State power distribution, power grid operation, consumption and inter-State power bill payments. The organisation will negotiate with Central government on power requirements on behalf of member States and inter-State power disputes.
Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao called up Mr. Prabhakar Rao over phone and congratulated him. He praised the senior power official for playing a key role in uninterrupted power supply in the State. He said it was a honour for Mr. Rao’s meritorious service and discharge of duties.
The Chief Minister also expressed happiness at environmental clearance granted for Yadadri Power Plant. He asked Mr. Prabhakar Rao to start work on the project as all hurdles were cleared. The Generation Corporation will implement the project with an estimated outlay of ₹ 27,000 crore, of which ₹ 21,000 crore will be provided by Rural Electrification Corporation.
