April 08, 2014 12:53 am | Updated May 21, 2016 09:18 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The city might have to brace for longer outages very soon, as the central discom has been facing acute power shortage for the past three days. Officials from the company inform that the power cuts are set to increase by an hour per day.

With temperatures on the rise, and fuelled by increased use of air-conditioning units and agricultural pump-sets the power consumption has gone drastically up. The situation may continue till the month end.

Staggered schedules

The city is already on the load relief grind of three hours per day, implemented in two spells of one and a half hour each in staggered schedules across the areas.

sNow the outage in each spell may go up to two hours, amounting to four hours per day.

Against the requirement of about 5,200 MW of power, only 4,500 MW is available for the company as of now, forcing the power cuts, an official informed.

On Monday, a few areas near Nagole and Kothapet experienced emergency load reliefs of half an hour in the evening, which were soon lifted, only to be shifted onto rural feeders.
