Telangana Pradesh Congress Committee president and former MP Ponnam Prabhakar ridiculed Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao for making tall claims on the development of Karimnagar town as a world class city with the Manair River Front (MRF) project on the shores of Lower Manair Dam (LMD) reservoir.

He demanded the Chief Minister of first fulfilling the promise of developing the town on the lines of London and New York. Mr. Prabhakar reminded him that during the maiden visit of the CM to the town on August 5, 2014 he had talked about the Manair River Front project.

He alleged that the Government had proposed the MRF only to encourage real estate business along the shores of river Manair, discouraging farming activities.

Talking to the mediapersons here on Thursday, he charged that the Chief Minister with deceiving the people of Karimnagar, though they had held in keeping up momentum of the Telangana statehood movement.

No development is seen in the town during the last three years, he alleged. In place of development the people have witnessed it turning worse due to the inefficiency of the elected representatives and officials, he charged.

Reminding people that the Chief Minister had laid the foundation for Karimnagar City Renovation (KCR) project with much pomp and gaiety in 2014, he wanted to know the progress of that project. He alleged that the State Government had decided to form Satavahana Urban Development Authority (SUDA) following the differences between Karimnagar Legislator G. Kamalakar and Mayor S. Ravinder Singh.

Instead of constituting the SUDA, the Government should appoint a vice-chancellor for the Satavahana University, he said and added that the Government had appointed a special officer for the town as it lacked confidence in the district officials.

Expressing concern over the plight of paddy farmers, he flayed the elected representatives for not visiting any marketyard or procurement centre to ensure proper procurement of paddy by providing minimum support price.
