Police rule out communal angle to Uppuguda attack on four youngsters

April 25, 2013 01:12 am | Updated 01:12 am IST - HYDERABAD:

The attack on four Muslim youth at Uppuguda on Tuesday was not of the communal kind, but borne of a trivial incident, police said.

Four persons, including the minor who was accused of attacking the youth with a stick, were arrested by the Chatrinaka police on Wednesday.

The 17-year-old was travelling by the MMTS on Tuesday evening when the four youth mocked his attire. An altercation followed and it continued even as all of them got off the train at Uppuguda, South zone DCP Tarun Joshi said. One of the four youngsters, Mohd. Mobin, attacked the minor.

The minor later noticed Mobin and the three others near the Uppuguda main road and rang up his friends

— J. Saibaba, 20, J. Sai Kiran, 19, and M. Naveen, 19 — who rushed to the area carrying sticks. While the teenager attacked the youth with a stick, his friends beat up them with hands.

A case would be registered against the four youth who allegedly teased the minor, if the latter files a complaint, police said.
