Police outposts at Osmansagar, Himayatsagar soon

May 22, 2015 12:00 am | Updated 05:37 am IST - HYDERABAD:

In a bid to prevent cases of sexual harassment and suicides, the Cyberabad police will start two lake police outposts at Himayatsagar and Osmansagar (Gandipet) lakes on the city outskirts. Both the police outposts are likely to be inaugurated by Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao shortly.

Officials from Revenue Department, Irrigation, HMDA and HMWS&SB along with Cyberabad police visited the two lakes recently and held meeting in this regard. Apart from crime prevention the officials also discussed ways of protecting the lakes from encroachments.

It was decided to utilise two temporary structures existing at the place for the police outposts. An Innova patrolling car and motorcycles will also be provided to ensure proper patrolling in the area. Binoculars and handheld cameras will also be given to the policemen. The Irrigation Department will provide boats to the police for patrolling the lakes.

“The aim is to check cases of suicides, sexual harassment, drowning and bike racing. A few cases of murder and robbery were also reported at the places,” a senior police official said adding that effective patrolling at the place would prevent criminal activities. The police also plan to hire expert swimmers. They will be stationed at the police outpost to meet any eventualities.

“Both the lakes get a high number of tourists on weekends. Ensuring their security is also a priority,” the official added. At a later stage, the police also plan to erect a watch tower and install closed circuit cameras at the lakes.
