March 02, 2015 03:28 pm | Updated November 16, 2021 06:50 pm IST - ANANTAPUR :

The Minister for Major Irrigation, Devineni Umamaheswara Rao today asserted that the TDP Government attached great importance to the completion of the Ananta Venkata Reddy Handri Neeva Sujala Sravanthi (AVRHNSS) project at the earliest. He said that the Government had two priorities - Construction of the State Capital and completion of the Polavaram Project.

Mr Rao, who is on tour of the district to check on the progress being made on the canals pertaining to the second stage of the HNSS Project, told the media persons at a joint press conference with the IT Minister Palle Raghunatha Reddy that State Government intended to divert water from the Krishna basin to Rayalaseema after completion of the Pattiseema Project.

"Once the Pattiseema LI Project is completed, water from.the Godavari basin will be used to cater to the needs of the Krishna delta while the water thus saved in the Krishna river basin will be given to Rayalaseema through HNSS, in line with the State Government's stated policy of making Rayalaseema drought free", said Mr. Umamaheswara Rao .

"The Polavaram project shall be completed under any circumstances by June 2018 and the interconnection between the two major river basins completed rendering the state free from drought", opined Mr. Rao even as he accused the previous Congress governments of 'not acting' on getting the permissions required for the project.

Mr. Rao is scheduled to move along with officials along the proposed canals of the second stage of the HNSS project and is expected to give directions to ensure completion of work on the canals at the earliest.

Accusing the opposition of 'not being helpful' to the Government in tackling the problems that State was facing, he urged them not to politicise every issue. "The Government is trying to fulfil all the promises it has made and more. The TDP Government will complete the HNSS project and keep its promise", reiterated Mr. Rao.
