Lashing out at those criticising Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence on certain issues, Union Minister M. Venkaiah Naidu defended him saying he cannot be expected to speak on everything.
“Do you want the Prime Minister to speak on each and everything,” he asked, pointing out that law and order is a State subject. The Minister for Information and Broadcasting and Urban Development, who addressed students of Indian School of Business in Hyderabad on Saturday, said this while condemning cow vigilantism. No one has the license to kill people in the name of protecting the cow, he declared.
“The PM should speak on general issues and then try to guide the society,” Mr. Naidu said, wondering what would happen to the respective Chief Minister if Prime Minister decides to speak on what is happening in a particular district of a State.
Accusing a section of intellectuals of trying to champion the cause of people who are offenders, eulogise Burhan Wani, Afzal Guru and Yakub Memon, the Minister said those working against the country and challenging the integrity do not deserve any mercy. People have a right to express, but Right to Expression has certain limitations.
Later, in a brief interaction with media, he also cautioned Pakistan against creating disturbance in India “as it is not going to help you in long term. It will boomerang on you... first, you talk about what is happening in Gilgit and Balochistan.”
In his speech, he said on Kashmir entire India has to speak with one voice. “It is an integral part of India and there is no question of giving one inch and even PoK has to be with India one day or other.”
He highlighted various programmes of the government and said investors were looking to the country as there was no policy paralysis.
The government, he said, was for promoting the private sector as well as making public sector accountable. It would continue to pursue the process of reforms, he said.
