Several human rights, civil liberties organisations and the concerned citizens have approached the Hyderabad High Court seeking appointment of chairman and members to the State Human Rights Commission.

They contended that it is a statutory body and the governments have duty to constitute the commission by making appointments to the post of members and the chairman. The citizens need a forum to complain about the violations of Human Rights by the state and its organs. The case likely to be listed next week.

SCCL defends

The Singareni Collieries has defended its latest scheme of offering employment to children of employees, provided the employee offers to leave the job before his retirement.

The company was filing a counter affidavit in a writ petition filed by an unemployed youth in Hyderabad High Court complaining that if jobs in public sector are given away like this it is violative of the Constitution.

The company, through its General Manager (Personal) Ananda Rao, said that this scheme was in force in 1981 itself. He explained the salient features and said that

The miners who work in precarious conditions underground can be offered this and it is not illegal.

Plea rejected

A Division Bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Justice V.Ramasuubramanian and Justice Umadevi rejected the plea of a judicial officer who requested the court to implead a sitting judge of the High Court as party respondent in the writ petition filed by him challenging the various departmental inquiries initiated against him.

The Bench was dismissing the miscellaneous petition filed by the judicial officer in the pending writ petition. Initially in 2014 the name of judge was deleted by another Bench of court when the writ petition was filed. When the case was listed for final hearing in February 2017 the judicial officer wanted the name of sitting judge to be added back as respondent. The Bench traced the history of the case and recorded how it was adjourned and how there was different statements at different times. The Bench said that the petition to bring a sitting judge on record as respondent is being dismissed.
