Picture House Media, a production house that recently filed a case of ‘perjury’ against actor Shruti Haasan, on Monday announced it was withdrawing it following the intervention of the Tamil Film Producers’ Council and South Indian Film Artistes’ Association.
In a statement, the media house said though the issue of perjury by the actor was pending in court “due to the fact that she denied receiving an advance of Rs.10 lakh, and for deposing before a notary in Chennai, while claiming it to be in Hyderabad”, and despite having produced adequate evidence in court, it had decided to put these issues behind.
President and secretary of the producers’ council Kalaippuli Thanu and T. Siva, and the artistes’ association president Sarath Kumar had held discussions with the media house and suggested a way forward to settle the contentious issues. The media house said that as a responsible member of the film fraternity, it had decided to withdraw its case.
Representatives of Picture House Media impressed upon the bodies that while the sanctity of contractual agreements were paramount in Mumbai, the same attitude was not reflected in the South, and said it was an issue that needed to be addressed with all seriousness.
