The CPI(M) Telangana State Committee held the government responsible for the rampage at Khammam market yard, and demanded action so that such incidents were not repeated. Price for chilli crop should be fixed at Rs.10,000 per quintal, a press release from the party said.
The Khammam market yard had been kept shut for a total of eight days in April, due to which the chilli crop had accumulated at the market. Even on Wednesday, the market yard was kept closed in view of Chief Minister K. Chandrasekhar Rao’s meeting in Warangal on Thursday.
Taking advantage of the situation, the buyers had cancelled the auction, and arbitrarily fixed the price at ₹3000-₹4,000 per quintal, the note said.
Despite farmers’ protests about it, the market yard chairperson and secretary had not intervened.
Besides, they stopped the purchases, inciting the desperate farmers, it alleged.
