Activists of Telangana Vidyarthi Vedika, an organisation formed opposing Government's recent decision to use Osmania University lands to build houses for the poor, attacked a hotel at Habsiguda on Monday.

Seventeen of them were picked up by the OU Police and taken to Amberpet police station for questioning. Various sections, including student groups of the OU had been opposing the Government's decision and vowed to protect the lands of the university "come what may".

As TVV planned to stage demonstrations on Monday, police rushed additional forces and deployed teams ensuring no agitating student came onto road.

Meanwhile, the TVV workers boarded RTC bus and got off at Habsiguda. Though policemen were deployed at the Swagath Grand Hotel, the youngsters started pelting stones at the hotel, which is reportedly owned by a ruling party member. Police used fierce to disperse them and took 17 of them into custody.
