OU gets ₹107 crore out of ₹242 crore RUSA funds

60% of amount borne by the Centre

Osmania University got the maximum share of ₹107 crore out of the ₹242 crore under the Phase-II of the Rashtriya Uchchatar Shiksha Abhiyan (RUSA), the Centrally Sponsored Scheme (CSS) of the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD).

The 12th Project Approval Board meeting of RUSA met in New Delhi on Friday to finalise the fund sanctions based on the proposals by all State Governments. Out of the ₹107 crore sanctioned for OU, ₹7 crore is for the UGC- Human Resource Development Centre (UGC-HRDC).

The OU is the only university in Telangana to have qualified for the scheme by virtue of being accorded the NAAC “A+ “status with a score of 3.52 grade points and placed under Category–I status . The scheme is to be completed by March 2020 and 60% of the amount will be borne by the Centre, while the State has to bear 40% of the finances.

The university has earmarked ₹20 crore for construction of a hostel for girls, washrooms for boys and girls and common rooms in six campus colleges. Further, ₹70 crore was proposed to be utilised for renovation and upgradation of existing facilities.

New equipment

Procurement of new equipment and enhancement of facilities with an outlay of ₹10 crore were also on the agenda.

The funds for the UGC HRDC would be utilised for construction of a new building, upgradation of hostel/infrastructure, implementation of regular and mandatory courses and programmes on HR-related and other courses for non-teaching staff and research scholars.

Among the ₹242 crore, Kakatiya University was sanctioned ₹50 crore while Telangana University and Potti Sreeramulu Telugu University got ₹20 crore each under the component infrastructure grants to universities. Government colleges in Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Sathupalli and Eturnagaram also received funds.
