OU gears up to seat 20,000 people for centenary fete

Vice Chancellor releases centenary song written by Suddala Ashok Teja; Elaborate seating, parking arrangements made

Osmania University is making arrangements to comfortably accommodate 20,000 people for the inaugural ceremony of the Centenary Celebrations to be inaugurated by President of India Pranab Mukherji on April 26.

University Vice Chancellor S. Ramachandram said at a press conference today that seating arrangements have been made for 10,000 students, 1000 VIPs, 2000 alumni, 1020 faculty, 758 retired staff, 1800 non-teaching staff and 128 physically handicapped candidates. Entry passes have been coded A, B, C, D and “C” is for students.

Tight security

Special officer, H. Venkateswarulu said all the students should get a print out of the confirmation of the entry pass from the centenary website. For security reasons students have to carry their ID cards also. He said the University has extended special invitation to descendants of the Nizam.

Officer on Special Duty to VC R. Limbadri explained the details regarding the parking facilities. There are different categories designed to maintain a smooth flow of traffic. A1 and A2 category have been allotted for all the VIPs, B1 for the faculty, B2 for Alumni, B3 for Non teaching and B4 for Affiliated Colleges while C1, C2, C3, C4 are completely allotted for the students of the university. Buses will be arranged in the campus for the elderly to reach the venue.

OU Registrar Ch. Gopal Reddy said a national seminar on the role of OU in Telangana and Nation Building will be held on the inaugural day and there will be cultural programmes in front of Arts College for all the three days.

Director of Art and Culture, Telangana, Mamidi Hari Krishna said the cultural programmes will revolve around the theme ‘100 years-100 galaalu’, ‘100 years-100 janapadaalu’ and ‘100 years-100 dhollu’. First program on each day will be staged by students of Osmania University.

The Vice Chancellor released the centenary song written by Suddala Ashok Teja and rendered by Vandemataram Srinivas. A promotional film made by Department of Communication and Journalism was also screened.
