Options called from relieved power staff

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Justice C.V. Nagarjuna Reddy and Justice M.S.K. Jaiswal on Friday asked the Telangana government to call for options from 1,250 employees of various power sector undertakings who were relieved by the Telangana government, but had resisted the move. After the options are given by the employees, the AP government will also know how many are ready to go to that State and how may will remain in Telangana.

The bench was dealing with the cases filed by 1,250 employees. It may be recalled that several attempts were made to arrive at a mutually acceptable solution. AP had been expressing its unwillingness to take them.

On Friday, the bench said that options may be called for and

that the Telangana government will tabulate the options within two weeks and then the AP government will get two weeks to take a decision. The bench adjourned the case by four weeks.

Report on prison deaths

A division bench of the Hyderabad High Court comprising Acting Chief Justice Ramesh Ranganathan and Justice Abhinand Kumar Shavli on Friday took on record the report filed by Andhra Pradesh government regarding unnatural deaths in prisons in AP. The bench granted time to Telangana government to file its report.

The bench was dealing with a taken up case based on a direction from the Supreme Court. The Supreme Court had taken up a case in 2013 when it was told about the spate of unnatural deaths in prisons in the country.

The case was listed two weeks ago and the court granted time to the State government to file status reports. On Friday, the AP government said that 19 unnatural deaths occurred between 2012-2017. The bench adjourned the case to November 7 and asked Telangana government to file its report.
