Oppn. parties hail HC ruling

August 04, 2016 12:00 am | Updated 05:52 am IST - HYDERABAD:

Opposition parties hailed the High Court ruling on striking down of GO 123 on Wednesday and demanded that the State government rectify its unilateral decisions now.

Congress, TDP and Left parties welcomed the High Court verdict and hoped that better sense would prevail on the government.

TPCC president N. Uttam Kumar Reddy on Wednesday evening termed it a victory for farmers and farm labourers. Democracy would be the ultimate winner, Mr. Reddy said, recalling how Congress leaders who were fighting for the cause alongside farmers were arrested.

Speaking to presspersons at Gandhi Bhavan, the party’s State headquarters, former Deputy Chief Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha and TPCC vice-president Mallu Ravi alleged that going ahead with construction of projects without a detailed project report could only be construed as moves designed to benefit contractors and nothing else. TDP Telangana State unit said the HC ruling was a slap in the face of the government and a victory to the agitating people under Mallannasagar. TDP TS working president A. Revanth Reddy welcomed the verdict claiming that the High Court had struck down the “black GO” which exposed the government’s unilateral decision to acquire lands from farmers.

The CPI(M) Telangana State Committee said the government should at least now start acquiring land for projects as per the provisions of the Land Acquisition Act, 2013. Addressing a press conference here on Wednesday, party’s State secretary Tammineni Veerabhadram demanded a statement from the government towards honouring the judgement.

“We are apprehensive that the State government will try to find some other way other than the Act to procure land. We do not think the struggle is over,” he said.
