Elated with the success of one-way traffic rule introduced on an experimental basis on some stretches in the city, the traffic police are planning to extend the same to the busiest Ameerpet-Punjagutta-Khairatabad road and a few others.
Ever busy routes like Ameerpet to Greenlands, Monappa Island to Punjagutta, Khairatabad, Punjagutta-Monappa Island, Somajiguda-Raj Bhavan, Road No.12 and 13 in Banjara Hills, some roads of West and East Marredpally, Tarnaka, Chikkadpally, Sangeet junction-Patny, Paradise-Park Lane and Chaderghat-Afzalgunj have been chosen for introducing one-way traffic on a trial basis.
“We solicit suggestions from public on one-way traffic rule proposals on these stretches,” Additional Commissioner of Police (Traffic) C.V. Anand told reporters here on Wednesday. Suggestions can be emailed to ‘trafficpolicehyderabad
@yahoo.co.in'. Plans were drawn up to close gaps between the medians to prevent ‘U' turns and in some areas right turns to be banned. “This initiative will enable us to ensure smooth flow of traffic,” he said, adding that pre-cast dividers would be put up along with gates on flyovers to avoid ‘U' turns.
Old and unutilised roads are to be used to ease traffic congestions. For instance, motorists are likely to be allowed to use the Begumpet to Bowenpally via runway compound wall once permission from the Civil Aviation Ministry is obtained.
The main road from Chaderghat to Koti behind Women's College and Chintalbasthi road connecting Road No. 12 in Banjara Hills to Nirankari and Khairatabad would be extensively used for the RTC buses. Synchronisation of signals on the busy roads and development of junctions were also in the process, he added.
