A 23-year-old man was arrested by the police in a murder case of a teenager, in Medchal on the city outskirts on Wednesday.
The accused, G. Mahender, of Sri Rangavaram village in Medchal, was employed in a private company at Gundlapochampally. There he met a 19-year-old girl from the same village and they soon started meeting frequently. “The accused admitted that he had physical relationship with the girl and she believed that he would marry her,” said Petbasheerabad ACP S. Ashok Kumar. He shared with her his love for his uncle’s daughter and his intention of marrying her. Unwilling to let to go him, she told him a few days ago that she was pregnant and asked Mahender to marry her. As she kept forcing him to marry her, he stopped seeing her and did not answer her calls.
Fearing that she might scuttle his plans of marrying his relative, he thought of eliminating her. With this intention, Mahender asked her to meet him at a secluded place near Bandamadharam electricity sub-station on May 17. There, he strangled her with her ‘dupatta’ and fled the place.
Initially, the police were clueless in the case, but they later picked up Mahender as the victim had called him from her uncle’s phone on the day of murder.
