The 67 Independence Day celebrations at the Jeedimetla campus of St. Anthony’s High School involved an interesting talk on the ‘Art of Parenting’ by business trainer and motivator M. Srinivas Rao.
Organised in association with The Hindu , the talk aimed at enlightening people on the relationship between parents and children on one hand and that between students and teachers on the other. Being over-protective, excessively authoritative and lenient, pampering and being strict with children were widely prevalent parenting styles, Mr. Rao said.
As a result, children lacked self-expression, were aggressive or fearful, selfish and egotist, lacked self-motivation and decision-making abilities. They were also growing callous and shirking responsibility, while dithering and procrastinating, as all decisions were taken by their parents, he said.
Among others present were the school’s correspondent and secretary N.P. Sundararaju and The Hindu ’s senior regional manager (circulation) S.D.T. Rao.
The day began with the traditional flag-hoisting ceremony, followed by an impressive march-past.
Students from Class 1 to 10 participated enthusiastically in various cultural activities, essaying the roles of ‘Bharat Mata’, Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose and Rabindranath Tagore.
