Six days after boycott of classes by the students of Osmania Medical College (OMC), the college authorities in a meeting decided to give an ex-gratia of Rs.7 lakh each to the families of the four students who died in a road accident last week.
Dr. B. Prabhakar, principal, OMC, said that the students had agreed to call-off their strike, after they were informed of the decision. The decision in the meeting was taken along with the Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr. Ramani, and other faculty members of OMC. However, the decision about the total payout of Rs.28 lakh has to be ratified by the State Government as it exceeds Rs.5 lakh per family.
The total amount of Rs.28 lakh will be given from OMC’s College Development Society (CDS) funds, said the principal. On Monday evening, he met the Principal Secretary, to get the amount of Rs.7 lakh per family ratified.
